Three years after they first started living together in West Sussex, Jodie and Joseph are engaged following his unusual proposal in Paris. “I was a bit shocked,” the model and TV presenter tells us
It was while they were on a romantic break in Paris that Jodie Kidd and her long-term boyfriend Josep Bates became engaged.
Jodie, 43, had been soaking in the bath after a couple of days’ sightseeing in the City of Love last November when Joseph, 35, burst into the bathroom and went down on one knee. She was somewhat taken aback.
“I thought he was bending down to have a chat with me, but suddenly he came out with it,” she says as the couple talk exclusively to HELLO! from their beautiful home in West Sussex.
“I was a bit shocked. I just said: ‘Oh my goodness!’ But it couldn’t have been a more wonderful moment. I guess in a restaurant it would have been clichéd. But this was private, fun and different.”
Joseph had also planned it for some time. “I kept thinking: ‘Shall I do it now? Is this the right place?’” he says. “I wanted it to be private, but I sort of ad-libbed.”
