NICK RHODES WITH FABRIZIO DI CRETICO
This photo was taken on 4 June 2005 at Duran Duran’s hotel after the group played a concert in Verona. It has a little history; while many of their fans were camped out in front of Duran’s hotel, I managed to evade security and enter the building. Perhaps because of how I was dressed or my look, I wasn’t thrown out. I may even have been mistaken for someone from the group’s entourage. I saw Nick go to the elevator and asked if we could have a picture together. Despite being tired and the late hour, he accepted and I stopped the fi rst passer-by to take a photo of us. Even today my friends, left outside the hotel, accuse me of having had a lot of ‘ass’ (ie luck). I’ve met Nick and the other members of the group on several occasions over the years, but this photo has a more unusual story behind it.
MARK BRZEZICKI WITH COLIN REDDY
I’m pictured here with Big Country’s drummer Mark. I’ve seen the band live probably a dozen times over the years and once caught Stuart Adamson’s plectrum at a gig. However, being a drummer myself I was thrilled to meet Mark when Big Country played at the Yardbirds club in my hometown of Grimsby in December 2021. He was packing away his monster drum kit but still found time for a photo and chat, asking what I thought of the show.
PETE DOHERTY WITH KEVIN RYAN
Here I am with Pete Doherty outside Coventry Cathedral in July 2021. Coventry had been chosen as the UK City of Culture and Terry Hall was the curator of an assembly of various artists across the city. This photo was taken before Pete’s solo performance on Saturday lunchtime inside the cathedral. He seemed relaxed and friendly whilst chatting to fans in the queue and didn’t mind having a selfi e. Pete played a great gig in an unusual but special setting – he’s a lot taller than I thought and a perfect gentleman._
NILE RODGERS WITH SUZANNE BALDWIN AND STEPHANIE EDMONDS
This photo was taken in December 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. Nile Rodgers & Chic were in town to play a show opening for Cher. The band’s bassist Jerry Barnes was a guest on our podcast Cherry Ice Cream Smile. During our interview with Jerry, we were able to speak with Nile over the phone and ask a question, he was very gracious to give up his time. Before the concert later that evening, we thanked Nile in person for talking with us on the show.
