WHY
A sombre, reflective Annie gazes into her dressing room mirror, getting in costume to become ‘the Diva’ for a photoshoot. The song’s words play out like emotions in her head, knowingly only lip-syncing the single line ‘keep your big mouth shut’. At first exposed, gradually she becomes glammed up and besequinned before smouldering in poses as the camera flashes away. Only when she has her armour on, does she finally bare all emotionally. Simple but powerful storytelling, as the larger-than-life character shields her from the insecurities within.
