Acting as an informal carer is causing significant stress and financial strain to almost eight million people across the UK, new research commissioned by HealthTech startup WeMa Life has revealed.
The survey found 15 per cent of UK adults consider themselves to be informal carers, with 53 per cent saying the role has had a significant impact on their emotional state. Two fifths say the financial burden has prevented them from leading the lifestyle they want. Rohit Patni, CEO and cofounder of WeMa Life, said: “This research sheds light on a hugely important issue. Whether for a close friend, elderly relative or longtime neighbour, many people at some stage in their life take on the responsibility of being an informal carer.
