Half the distance, twice the fun! That’s how I’d sum up the 13.1 mile distance. It’s a significant distance and requires a good amount of training to put in a strong performance. But it isn’t as time consuming as training for a full marathon.
Not everyone shares my love of half marathons though. Many view the half purely as a stepping stone on their way to its bigger sister, as a training race for a marathon. I’m going to try to convince you that focusing on a half marathon as your goal race this autumn can be a rewarding challenge that, perhaps unlike 26.2 miles, will leave you with plenty of time to enjoy the summer.
Emily Proto is a 1hr 18mins half marathon runner who has run herself onto the podium at Brighton and Worthing half marathons this year. She agrees that the half marathon distance is one that’s often overlooked by runners.
