This month sees the return of a familiar face. Steve Mann, the founder of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, whose ‘My problem puppy’ series went down a storm with readers last year, has returned with the new ‘dog trainer diaries’, charting some of his successes in tackling a range of dog-related problems, from recall to treat grabbing.

He kicks off this issue with recall, and the story of an exuberant Springer Spaniel with a lust for life, and a tendency to go AWOL. Steve’s insights and advice make for great reading, even if you do feel you’ve got this particular skill covered!

For the owners of older dogs, discovering that a much-loved pet is showing signs of canine dementia, otherwise known as canine cognitive dysfunction or cognitive dysfunction syndrome, can be devastating. But there are ways to manage the condition, and with veterinary support, your dog can still enjoy quality of life. Check out contributor Isabel George’s experience with her own dog, Scrummy, and discover how you can ensure that your pet has a stable environment in which he feels safe and secure.

Finally, we all know that yoga can calm the mind and help us through testing times, but have you ever considered it for your dog? Toni Shelbourne is a real dog yoga instructor and, in this new series, she argues that RDY can be just as beneficial for dogs as yoga is for humans. It involves teaching your dog to express and hold specific body postures, which help him to become, and remain, calm, and encourage him to practise this in his everyday life. Intrigued? Find out more on page 14.

This is just a taster of the fantastic content in Your Dog Magazine — there’s lots, lots more to discover, so make yourself a cuppa, sit down, and enjoy. And we look forward to catching up again next month.
