PREMIER DIVISION
LEIGH MINERS RANGERS turned the formbook upside down with a sensational 20-18 win at WEST HULL, who went into the contest joint-top of the table with Hunslet Amateurs.
The Miners, by contrast, had lost all four of their fixtures and headed East not only bottom of the table, but with only 16 players, however the Twist Lane outfit should, on this showing, rise through the ranks.
Wests enjoyed a bright start, Brett Turner crossing on 13 minutes and Josh Wood landing his only goal in a game in which the Green and Golds scored four tries to the visitors’ three.
The Miners responded with tries by the half-hour for Rob Drake and Marco Williamson, Drake improved both efforts and, crucially, landed a penalty-goal as the interval beckoned to establish a 14-6 lead.
