ROUND-UP
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS coach Jason Demetriou earned bragging rights over his old boss Wayne Bennett as the Bunnies piled on 30 unanswered secondhalf points to roll over the top of the DOLPHINS.
Bennett’s new franchise led 14-6 at half-time and only trailed by a converted try when Kenny Bromwich was sin-binned for an ugly hit on Taane Milne on the hour mark, allowing Isaiah Tass, Latrell Mitchell and Alex Johnston to all cross within five minutes.
Mitchell and stand-off Cody Walker led the visitors with a try apiece and four try-assists between them, although a minor ankle injury to backrower Keaon Koloamatangi took some gloss off South Sydney’s win.
Euan Aitken crossed in just the second minute before the first of Campbell Graham’s two tries levelled the scores, coming from a neat Mitchell pass.
Jamayne Isaako’s penalty goal and Jeremy Marshall-King’s dive-over from dummy-half had the Dolphins in control at the break.
However, the second half was all red and green.
First, Graham snaffled a Lachlan Ilias bomb, then Walker gathered a ricocheted offload and Mitchell dobbed a penalty goal to thrust the Bunnies ahead.
The floodgates flung open once referee Ashley Klein binned Bromwich for tackling Milne early while he was waiting to receive a high kick, with Tass, Mitchell and Johnston sealing the two points.
