Fedora Workstation 33
VERSATILE DISTRO
MIN SPECS: 2GB RAM, 20GB DISK
H aving been out of the DVD game for so long, there’s a lot of new distros and it’s hard to decide which one gets a spot. But we’re confident you’ll agree that few are more worthy than Fedora (plus, unlike Ubuntu it was small enough to fit). It’s a great place to try the latest features in the kernel, the desktop, or any piece of the stack you’d care to name.
This release sees the shift to Btrfs as the default filesystem, which means you can enjoy snapshots, volumes and all kinds of other Btree goodness out of the box. There’s been more work done on the previous release’s EarlyOOM service so rogue memory-devouring applications are even less likely to cripple your system. Furthermore, you get the latest Gnome 3.38 (which has seen most of its core tools get a visual refresh) and probably the premier Wayland experience on any distro.
