GitHub is fighting back against DMCA claims and siding with its developers.
GitHub is fighting back after being issued with a DMCA (digital millennium copyright act) takedown notice from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The body claimed that by hosting the source code for youtube-dl, GitHub was in breach of the US copyright law. By enabling users to download YouTube videos, as the youtube-dl tool does, the RIAA argues this makes it possible for people to circumvent YouTube’s DRM.
