Migrate to your new Mac
Transfer your stuff with ease with the help of Apple’s Migration Assistant
The thought of moving data from one computer to another can feel daunting but it’s easier than you may imagine. Since 2003, Apple has offered a tool called Migration Assistant which simplifies the process of moving your data, apps and settings to a new Mac. Whether you’re migrating from an old Mac or a Windows PC, you can use it to simplify what could so easily be an arduous task while still having control over what is copied across.
You can directly transfer data from one Mac to another over Wi-Fi (which takes longer) or via a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable (which accelerates the process). The latter is preferable if you have more than 500GB to transfer – click the Apple menu > System Settings > Network > Thunderbolt Bridge to establish a connection. An alternative method is to use the backup you’ve created. Plug the external drive into your new Mac and, again, Migration Assistant works its magic.
