New Macs coming soon
M2-powered MacBook Pro and Mac mini on the way
EDITED BY ROB MEAD-GREEN
Apple’s ‘Far Out’ September event saw the launch of new iPhone 14, Apple Watch and AirPods models, but Macs were nowhere to be seen. However hope remains high that new Macs will appear in October, although any launch will be more low-key, according to renowned Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman who says “Apple may ultimately end up feeling differently, but I think the company (as of now) is more likely to release its remaining 2022 products via press releases, updates to its website and briefings with select members of the press – rather than via a major iPhone-style keynote.”
High-end MacBook Pro refresh?
There’s plenty of room for optimism, though. Current rumours suggest that the MacBook Pro 14- and 16-inch will get a refresh in the form of new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, with the M2 Max featuring an up to 12-core CPU, an up to 38-core GPU, and up to 64GB of unified memory – asmall but noticeable upgrade over the existing M1 Max, which can be configured with an up to 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 64GB of memory.
