Changing Background Items
WHEN DID YOU last check the .plists in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders in your Mac’s main Library folder? Most of us leave them well alone, although some are old and few have clear excuses for being there. One of Ventura’s less publicized changes gives visibility and control to them in the list of Background Items in the Login Items settings. Not only should this improve stability, but in the long run it should also prevent malware from persisting in the background by abusing those .plists. The goal is for those files to be kept within each app, where they will be protected by its signature, and safe from tampering by unwanted visitors. Achieving that will take time, though, as developers will need to update their apps in order to take advantage of this new scheme, and make them more self–contained.
