NAS OS Installation?
Hi Zak, I’ve been an avid reader of the mag since the Boot days. Loved your article on the Super Storage Station.
Has MaxPC ever done an article on how to install a NAS or Server version of Windows software on a machine? That’s what I really need—some hand holding on the OS side. I can install client Windows fine. It’s the server side capabilities where I’m a newbie.

RESPONDS: Hi Larry, Thanks for getting in touch. It’s funny you should bring this up! I’ve actually got this penned in for the next issue. Nick Peers is going to be writing a fairly in-depth eight-page feature for us on how to set up your own NAS/Server in Windows, and alternative solutions to that as well. So hopefully you should see something about that very soon.
I was hoping to get it in a bit sooner (for this issue technically), as Nick’s actually built a new system for himself in December specifically for this very feature. But unfortunately my plans got a bit scuppered for our Feb edition. Christian’s had to take some significant time out due to major health concerns, and I had to self-isolate as I contracted COVID-19 and couldn’t attend two build photoshoots. It’s all very frustrating!
Antivirus Roundups?
Hey Zak, Happy New Year and great job at Maximum PC.
I really like your approach, and your writing style—very informative but with an everpresent friendly vibe. Keep up the great work!
It’s been a while since a thorough review of various anti-virus/malware protection products. I’d like to suggest a refresh in the coming months if possible. We’ve used Norton 360 for years and it seems fine, but our free subscription is ending soon and we’re wondering whether to just go with Windows Defender or pony up for another product.
