HOLLOW FRONT
The Fear Of Letting Go UNFD
Michigan metalcore troupe strip down to the essentials
The third studio album from Michigan duo Tyler Tate and Lee Albrecht is profound metalcore done right. Rather than dwell on the past and events that led the two to become the only remaining members of Hollow Front, Tyler and Lee got to work recording and mastering the album together, which saw Tyler taking on clean and harsh vocal duties for the first time. The result is an impressive, cathartic experience that switches from gritty, determined screams (as demonstrated on Crash & Burn) through to the ethereal harmonies displayed on Stay With Me. The songwriting does struggle for the lack of more input, though, as some tracks, such as Underpressure and Breaking Teeth, become repetitive, relying on a pattern that needs more variation, which the two have the talent to achieve.
