NOLA’s boisterous five-piece go beyond the rap-metal trappings
Gold Tooth Guru is the debut album from this unique Louisiana quintet fronted by multi-talented MC Milly and clean vocalist Nick ‘Neeco’ Trahan. Describing HourHouse as rap-metal would do them a severe injustice. They are heavy AF and as much of a melting pot of sounds as the charismatic city of New Orleans that they grew up in. Part gritty, part playful, part raucous and part mellow, their music alluringly meshes hip hop, trap and extreme metal. Blistering standouts like Swarm, featuring Left To Suffer’s Taylor Barber, Lsd and Bodybag Musik, featuring Shaolin G, neatly blend fierce fretwork with screams, snarls and cool verse. Meanwhile, 6Flow boasts a bit more groove, Parasyte braves a clean chorus and Ride has a sexy throwback vibe. There is barely a weak track to be found throughout Gold Tooth Guru, and it’s a blast. This heavy outfit from down South deserve some serious attention.
