MASTER’S CALL
A Journey For The Damned FIREFLASH
UK death metallers wring triumph from internal turmoil
Having endured a decadelong struggle to get to this point, with the final months of recording seeing a revolving door of vocalists, Master’s Call’s debut has proved worth the time and turmoil. As well as being cloaked in an ominous atmosphere, their blackened death metal is built on a deliberate groove that helps the likes of All Hope In Fire and Beyond The Gates bury themselves in the subconscious. The Serpent’s Rise and Blood On The Altar’s epic melodic bridges are soon engulfed by the nefarious riffs of Dave Powell and John Wilcox, with the latter also stepping up to last-minute vocal responsibilities with commanding aplomb. The galloping Pathways concludes a new path well worth retreading.
