MASKING AWKWARD AREAS
After some detailing and repair work, I’m part-repainting a Hornby LNER ‘J36’, but wanted to preserve the bufferbeam paintwork. Does George have a tip for masking up so I can spray the smokebox area? Applying masking tape is going to be tricky with the buffers and coupling hook in the way. Trevor Winter, by email
George says: I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid the need to reinstate lining and numbers onto the bufferbeams, so masking the factory-applied finish makes good sense. A quick and easy way to mask awkward areas like this is to use masking fluid, such as Humbrol’s Maskol, which is available from most model shops.
