MASKING AWKWARD AREAS

After some detailing and repair work, I’m part-repainting a Hornby LNER ‘J36’, but wanted to preserve the bufferbeam paintwork. Does George have a tip for masking up so I can spray the smokebox area? IS IT POSSIBLE TO PAINT A BRIDGE IN SITU?

I’m building a road overbridge from a plastic kit, which will form one of the main scenic breaks on my layout. I’m having to adapt the kit to fit into the landscape and I’m thinking I’ll have to assemble much of it while installing it to the layout. I would usually paint and finish a structure before ‘planting’ it, but that may not be possible in this instance. I seem to think I’ve seen something similar tackled in Model Rail in the past. Can you give me some tips?
