Aday before Bachmann Europe’s Winter 2021 Model Railway Announcements was broadcast live on YouTube, I’d been tipped off about a surprise package that was headed to my home. The MR team couldn’t help speculating as to what it could be, although I had an inkling that it might be a new locomotive of some sort. However, I hadn’t expected it to be one of the Ffestiniog Railway’s iconic double Fairlie 0-4-4-0Ts.
Funnily enough, the Fed Ex driver arrived just as Bachmann’s live broadcast ended, so it felt exciting to instantly have one of the models in my hand. What a thrilling way to conduct a new product launch during pandemic conditions!
As outlined on page 6, Bachmann Narrow Gauge is producing three different double Fairlies within the main range, each featuring detail differences to suit each prototype, plus a fourth version, exclusively for Collectors’ Club members only. Our sample depicts the FR’s No. 10 Merddin Emrys, in original condition. Thus, it has half-cab roofs and, arguably, the most attractive of the various livery schemes on offer.
