1 : What is your earliest railway memory?
My grandad Jim (Dad’s father) had a secret layout in a large shed behind the house. I say ‘secret’ as the shed was split in two with a door that led to the layout – as a kid it felt secret. It was immaculate; everything had a place. It was great to watch the trains going round; it all looked so complicated and technical!
2: What is your most memorable train journey?
As a child Mum and Dad took us to Carlisle on the Settle-Carlisle line. It was a great day out. I can’t have been very old but I still remember it.
