PART 18: BR Type 2s in green
Paul Chancellor casts his eyes over a range of livery permutations seen on BR’s green diesel locomotives in the 1,000-1,500hp power range.
The North British diesel electric Type 2s (later Class 21) D6100-D6157 are perhaps the simplest of the classes to model in respect of liveries. Here we see D6100, looking almost new, in the austere plain green livery, with a grey roof panel and red bufferbeams.
COLOUR RAIL
The ‘Green Diesel’ era should, in theory, be one with few variations in the application of BR’s ‘standard’ locomotive green livery. However, with so many different locomotives within the Type 2 power range, each with its own aesthetics and profile, BR took the view that the ‘standard’ livery should be tailored to suit the character of each individual class.
