‘O’ GAUGE LAYOUT SHERTON ABBAS
Working with the big brass
Dave Stone didn’t let the thought of building locomotives, rolling stock and track deter him from choosing this seldom-modelled era.

What makes this layout great?
“Edwardian-era layouts aren’t too common, so it’s nice to be able to bask in the extravagance of the locomotives when one comes along. Lots of polished brass and plenty of lining really show off the locomotives in their heyday – they’re certainly better than some of the boxes on wheels we have seen in more recent years!”
2 When Dave first built ‘Sherton Abbas’ he ran it on DC power. A friend of his was then selling his layout which had DCC, so Dave gave it a go and was hooked when he heard the sound.
There are a few main reasons why modellers choose to model in the larger, 7mm scale. Some do it because their eyesight is not as good as it once was and the larger scale allows them to still enjoy the hobby, and some love the extra details you can add that the smaller scales don’t allow. This was the case for Dave Stone, who got frustrated with not being able to see the brake detail he’d spent hours working on in ‘EM’ gauge, and decided that the time was right to make the jump to ‘O’ gauge finescale.
