Backsence
CHRIS LEIGH
is drawn back to the 1980s as he concludes several chapters from his modelling past.
On Saturday, August 31, I went back to my old stamping ground of Staines, Middlesex, in order to attend the launch of a book on the West Drayton-Staines West branch line, that has been 40 years in the making. I first met the author, Chris Turner, back in the 1970s. He had built a model of Colnbrook station which he invited me to see. I had been involved in Staines Town Society’s successful bid to obtain Grade 2 listing for the unique Staines West station. Opened in 1885, it had been converted from a private house owned by one of the line’s promoters.
