‘OO’ GAUGE LAYOUT OUTWELL VILLAGE
Norfolk punch
He may have modelled a relatively obscure village, but Alan Price’s largely scratchbuilt layout gets far more recognition than you might imagine.

What makes this layout great?
“Since Alan has done such a good job of creating the look and feel of ‘Outwell Village’, you can pick out the exact location he’s modelled and some of the buildings on a map. To create something so recognisable takes a lot of skill and patience, but you really feel as though you’re stepping back in time when viewing this layout.”

We have a question for you. What do you think is the most easily recognised section of railway in the United Kingdom? By a section of railway, we don’t mean a station with its grand infrastructure but a part of the line that’s out in the open. Your mind may jump to places such as Glenfinnan Viaduct, but if you aren’t familiar with the Harry Potter film franchise then that could easily pass you by. Alan Price thinks he has found the answer with his ‘OO’ gauge exhibition layout though, as he says somebody always recognises it when he’s out and about. ‘Outwell Village’ is so named because, unsurprisingly, it’s based in Outwell on the Wisbech & Upwell tramway with its distinctive ‘J70’ tram engines.
