Unusual scenes captured by the lens of Chris Nevard
Back in the old days, communities could borrow an ancient engine from the local museum to keep their services running. For this very reason, most town museums kept an ancient engine in full working order, and it could be borrowed for up to three weeks using a library card. Failure to return them on time could result in a 1d fine per day – about 25p in today’s money. Railway folklore claims that the film classic The Titfield Thunderbolt was inspired by these antics, as this previously unseen documentary evidence shows.
