TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT was a mess and a masterpiece. Recorded in 1973 but released two years later (after Time Fades Away and On The Beach), it was ragged and raw, so out-there sonically that it’s a miracle a major label put it out. A rambling elegy to Crazy Horse’s Danny Whitten and CSNY roadie Bruce Berry, both dead from drugs and alcohol, it featured Young and the band tanked to the eyeballs on tequila, blow and honey-slides (an intense concoction of cooked marijuana).
