Flash Fearless Versus The Zorg Women Parts 5 & 6
CHRYSALIS, 1975
T HERE ARE ROCK follies, and there is Flash Fearless Versus The Zorg Women Parts 5 & 6. A sci-fi comedy concept caper from 1975 with a heavyweight crew of contributors, it epitomises the cheeky opportunism and circus-style entertainment philosophy of the pre-punk ’70s rock operator. There is much to cause raised eyebrows here. Alice Cooper appears alongside trad folk singer Maddy Prior and hillbilly rocker Jim Dandy. There are three drumming supremos – Kenney Jones, Bill Bruford and Carmine Appice – with a fourth, Keith Moon, showing up to impersonate Long John Silver. An LP about aliens and Amazonians, it drops you into the middle of the story without any prior explanation of parts 1 to 4. Somewhere, Justin Hayward is playing guitar. And it was partly written by Rick Jones, presenter of BBC children’s series Play School and puppeteer Yoffy from ’70s kids’ TV choice Fingerbobs.
