How we test
Details of this month’s benchmarks and tests
W e focus on everyday speed with our benchmarks, starting off with the CPU. Here, we used Geekbench 6.5 and Cinebench 2024 to test both single-core and multicore performance.
PCMark 10 is a more rounded test, as it places demands on all the core components: CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD. Anything above 10,000 suggests that the system will feel fast in the chosen task, while results of 7,000 or more indicate that the PC will cope fine.
To test AI performance, we installed Ollama on each PC, then from a command prompt entered: ollama run llama3.2: 3b "Hello". This pulls the llama 3.2:3b model, and opens a chat that ensures it’s loaded into memory. We then used ollama run llama3.2:3b –verbose and asked it to write a feature around benchmarking a PC.
