The new MacBook Air M5 is little different to last year’s M4 model (see issue 368, p54), but a few under-the-hood enhancements make it a better laptop than ever, and an attractive upgrade for owners of older models. While the MacBook Neo (see p48) offers a cut-price alternative, we think this is still the entry-level choice for more demanding users.
The main attraction is the M5 chip, first seen in last year’s iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. Thanks to this, the new Air offers superb performance for web surfing, video editing and even lightweight gaming. Naturally, the new M5 Pro and M5 Max variants can handle heavier loads (see p52), but the M5 is more than powerful enough for everyday use.
