Backup Exec (BE) has always been one of our top choices for on-premises data backup and recovery, and after Cohesity’s acquisition of Veritas at the start of 2025 it begins a new phase in its life as Arctera’s flagship product. Arctera immediately assigned it a dedicated software development team, and we’re already seeing the fruits of its labour as Backup Exec 25 (BE25) delivers plenty of new features. Along with full support for Windows Server 2025, it enhances Microsoft 365 (MS365) protection with options to restore Exchange items to a PST file and secure Teams private channels. There’s a new role for restore administrators, and the integral malware detection service now supports the Symantec Protection Engine (SPE).
