Woolgathering IS IT JAZZ?
Bergen-based jazz trio’s atmospheric debut.
It’s always refreshing when a group is willing to stretch beyond their home turf. A young trio consisting of bassist Øystein Høynes, Amund Nordstrøm on drums, and guitarist Odd Erlend Mikkelsen are graduates of Bergen’s prestigious Grieg Academy and incorporate elements of Americana and a retro post-bop feel. Yet they never stray too far from a mix of easy-on-theear tunes with an agreeable tonality. Supple arrangements maintain a simple enough framework that allows ample room for some effective, engaging interplay. Think Medeski, Martin And Wood, but minus the Hammond organ.
