UMPHREY’S McGEE
Asking For A Friend NOTHING TOO FANCY MUSIC
No jams, but plenty of sweet stuff on the US quintet’s 14th studio record.
For a band who get off on improvising, Umphrey’s McGee’s latest album feels direct as hell. At its core is a mash of traditional song structures, masterfully merged chord progressions, and lyrics that can cut deep. ‘I’m so tired of the run around, everybody’s all wired to burst,’ vocalist Brendan Bayliss concedes on Small Strides.
