DVNE
Voidkind METAL BLADE
Dune-fixated Scots continue their sand-blasted prog metal odyssey.
Edinburgh’s Dvne draw obvious – and timely – inspiration from Frank Herbert’s Dune, and the follow-up to 2021’s Etemen Ænka doesn’t deviate from this path. Huge, evolving prog metal soundscapes meander throughout the record, though the long, drawn-out buildups of Etemen Ænka are lessened in favour of shorter tracks such as Summa Blasphemia or Reaching For Telos that reach their exciting apex much sooner. Dvne still take a progressive approach, interweaving and layering their many components to an almost indistinct blend, but Voidkind’s more direct route to its summit feels mature and intelligent.
