A speaker-shredding joy with a surprising modus operandi.
Much like the creeping and increasingly palpable coming of the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the original Jurassic Park movie, the looming arrival of Amplifier’s eighth album was heralded with the release of its predecessor, 2023’s 36-minute Hologram, a record made during the same sessions as Gargantuan, but winnowed off for its own purposes. And like that cinematic beast, this bigger, beefier hour-long album’s arrival thrills and excites with a muscularity that’s lean and ferocious, but with the added fuel of righteousness.
