FINDING YOUR CLANN
In November 2024 I was very ill and had to have emergency surgery, which effectively saved my life. In the bed opposite me was Charles, who was in a similar state to me, both of us in some pain and making slow recovery. As the days went by we struck up a friendship and began to chat about music. He told me all about the band Solstice. I knew nothing about them other than reading the occasional piece in this magazine. It turned out that Charles was a long-term friend of guitarist and main songwriter Andy Glass. Solstice were about to tour and I saw they were due to play at the 1865 Club in Southampton.
I began to recover and I was discharged with Charles still making his way. As I left we shook hands and I said, “Charles, you will get better and I’ll see you in the bar of the 1865 Club in April for the Solstice show.”
That show was last night and what a show it was. First of all, the 1865 Club is a terrific venue. Well laid-out, good sound and lighting, and a very interesting range of decent beer.
