German experimentalists continue to push their own envelope on seventh album.
The Hirsch Effekt have been saddled with the ‘prog metal’ tag. While there are certainly heavy and aggressive moments in the Hanover band’s back catalogue, they only represent a small part of what they do. From shoegaze to math rock, campfire acoustics and complex prog rock, they juggle genres with their own central identity (aided by the fact that they write and sing in their own native language) at the core.
