PROCOL HARUM: VINYL EDITION ESOTERIC
Weird, wonderful debut trips the light fandango again.
For many, Procol Harum’s 1967 debut album stands proudly as one of the foundation stones of progressive and symphonic rock. Paul McCartney brought the other Beatles and Pete Townshend along to watch the band. “It was a semi-conscious bid to do something that wasn’t being done,” the late Gary Brooker once told this writer for Prog. He saw the record as “modern blues for its time, often with a dark edge”.
