While Thijs van Leer’s current incarnation of Focus have built a late-career following, there’s little question that they miss original guitarist Jan Akkerman. His jazzy, fluid playing was the backbone of their sound and live performances, and he was talked about in the same breath as the Gimours and Pages of the world, even if Focus themselves never scaled the same heights as Floyd or Zeppelin.
