This is a still from the film The Voice Beneath the Sea, which tells the story of the first transatlantic telecommunications cable, which came ashore at Gallanach.
When I was a young boy – probably about nine or 10 – back in 1948, my uncle drove the Co-op travelling shop to remote farms around the area surrounding Oban and on Saturdays I used to accompany him on his rounds.
The area he covered was any of the remote farms to the south of Oban and it was a big help to the farmers’ wives who could not get to the shops.
