Shiel Buses is one of 23 bus operators in Scotland to receive funding to support the financial costs of upgrading ticket machines to accept contactless bank card payments.
Nearly half a million pounds has been awarded in the first round of the Smart Pay Grant Fund: £447,850 has been awarded from the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund to support bus operators across the country.
The fund builds on the successful roll-out of contactless payment by the country’s largest operators and responds to feedback from smaller operators around the financial barriers to upgrading.
