Back when I was a kid, I often used to find myself killing time at the local sports centre after karate, while my dad trained in the adult class.
If the club owner’s daughter wasn’t around and I was on my own, I’d usually pop down to the foyer –I could marvel at the arcade games I rarely had money to play, or hope to catch a glimpse of Ace from Gladiators in the free weights room. But every so often, the chap who ran the volleyball club in the main hall would very kindly open up his sessions and teach basic techniques to those of us with nothing to do, and I developed a little bit of a fondness for the sport as a result.
