CONVERSION CAPERS
WHICH OF THE HOME VERSIONS HIT HARDEST?
COMMODORE 64
There were two versions of Double Dragon for the C64 and both misfired. The sequel manages to correct things, being both fun to play and pretty accurate (it’s the only 8-bit computer version to include the final fight against the clones). It features great tunes too.
ZX SPECTRUM
Switching to monochrome graphics avoids the colour clash and speed issues that plagued the original, but the end result is a drab-looking affair. It’s also too easy – you can beat it by hammering the cyclone kick. Play it on 128K, as the 48K version is a letterboxed nightmare.
