With affordable software and a console that could be considered reasonably priced – though admittedly, at the high end of reasonable – the Neo Geo CD was SNK’s big play towards having its powerful 2D hardware embraced by a mainstream audience. With that aim in mind, the company examined every way to make its hardware more appealing, and decided to replace the Neo Geo’s standard joystick controllers.
