VIRTUA RACING 1992
After years of using scaling sprites to simulate 3D, Virtua Racing marked Sega’s first foray into the real deal. Although the racing was excellent, it was the technology that drew crowds – not only the polygonal graphics with four camera angles, but the widescreen monitors and huge linked multiplayer setups too. The Mega Drive conversion required a special chip in the cartridge, and cost £70 at launch.
