The value of support
I read with great sadness the article Forced to give up my baby in the January issue. The haunted face o f Judy Baker today contrasted sharply with the picture she was holding of herself as a smiling, happy young mum with her baby. My heart goes out to her and I cannot begin to imagine what she and all the other unmarried mums who had to give away their children must have gone through.
My father was born out of wedlock in 1932 but thankfully remained with his mum. I do not know the circumstances, as my father did not talk of his childhood, but I can only assume his mum was given full support by her parents to keep and raise him. For that I am extremely grateful.
