We like to think we’re not hard to please. Present us with a board game called Traintopia pitch it as 'build the train city of the future' using tiles and meeples, we’re already sat down and eagerly waiting the first turn. So why doesn't this game excite us?
On paper, Traintopia is everything you'd expect: players take turns drafting tiles and meeples to place on their private city, scoring points by finishing train lines and ensuring there's plenty of stops that match a meeple's colour. Players also have a secret objective to complete and bonus pieces to place, rewarding them if they can score particularly long or wealthy train routes.
