Dolls House World  |  Issue 365
Confessions are in the air this issue. One maker tells us how her projects reflect her split personality. One admits she “buys tools the way most women buy shoes”.
And another, a professional singer, recalls a dark period in her life when she lost her voice. “Falling in love with miniatures saved my life and my soul,” she said.
We also hear how one miniaturist was inspired to recreate the home of artist Frida Kahlo because she, like him, had contracted polio in her early life.
This hobby helps people in so many ways. Kim Finch fell in love with it during quarantine, and she soon jumped right in the deep end taking on a huge house project. Kim never thought of herself as creative, but now says: “I’ve learned so much about myself and the things that I am capable of doing when I put my mind to it.”
That’s Kim’s kitchen you see on this month’s cover, so you can see she’s come a long way in a short time. We think it’s probably about time she really thinks of herself as ‘creative’.
Whether you’ve been in the hobby five minutes or five decades you can probably identify with Kim when she says she’s had “the chance to decorate the home of my dreams – one that hosts a collection of everything I would love to put in my actual house, if I had the budget.”
If you’re creating the home of your dreams, we hope we can help inspire you with our collection of features and projects this issue, and bring you more joy than a new pair of shoes.
