Argon ONE NVMe
Feeling the need, the need for 1980s film references, Les Pounder tries out a speedy Pi solution.
IN BRIEF
An expansion add-on board for the Argon ONE Raspberry Pi 4 case. NVMe storage offers fast and plentiful storage, but it’s limited by the bandwidth of the Pi’s USB 3 interface. If you want to make a low-power desktop PC with a Pi, this and the Argon ONE case are a great mix.
There is little difference between the SATA and NVMe add-ons. In performance and design, they appear closely matched, but NVMe drives are generally cheaper to purchase.
The Raspberry Pi’s microSD storage system is ample for most of us. Sure, the cards are not that fast and we’re prone to losing them, but they are cheap. But what if we want speed and larger capacity for our Pis? Argon40, maker of many cases for the Raspberry Pi (ONE, EON and NEO) released a SATA expansion board a few years back. This used M.2 SATA drives for cheap and fast storage. Now a new expansion board offers NVMe storage, so we put one in a case and took it for a spin.
