Weird wireless
I’ve run into that catch-22 situation when putting Linux on certain systems where you need internet access to easily install the Linux wireless driver but you don’t yet have an internet connection.
After finally using an Ethernet adaptor, I realised the solution was at hand: phone tethering. You can use either Bluetooth or a physical USB cable to connect your computer to your mobile phone and use tethering to get on the internet. Just install the driver you want and you’re gold! Obviously, you need to check your phone’s data plan carefully but a driver install is relatively small data-size-wise.

That is a good idea, certainly one to add to the toolbox. Usually I have an Ethernet cable to hand, because most desktops and even laptops still pack one and these tend to work by default. I could imagine Bluetooth not working as that’s often provided from the same chipset as the wireless, but I guess your mileage will vary. Personally, I have a Wi-Fi USB dongle I know works with the kernel by default – there’s an up-to-date list here: https://bit.ly/lxf302wifi.
